A brand-new Focus RS costs as much as a used Prius to insure.
I mean, there’s maintenance, the monthly payments, and, oh yes, getting my hands on one - but I like where this is going.

My 2011 M3 used to cost me only $100 more to insure for 6 months than my 1997 Ford Explorer did, that didn’t make much sense to me.

My friend pays an exorbitant amount to insure his 2002 WRX, which is also a turbo 4-cylinder 4-door, but known to be crashy thanks to the stereotypical owners.
In short - don’t be surprised if that goes up in a year or two.

Hmm, I think I will have to check out the insurance difference between the RS and my ‘16 STi.
Edit: hmm, actually insurance would rise $6.76/month with progressive.

When I checked insurance for one it was $260/mo to insure with a clean record. That was in the Chicago burbs though. Killed my hot hatch dream temporarily. I’ll look again once I settle in Dubuque.
If it comes to it I’ll build another GLH Omni and live with the stigma of a low budget.

They just ran my MVR for work and the only thing on there is Speeding 75 in a 45 when I was 23. That was 18 years ago.

Insuring my ‘15 FiST around Detroit will cost me ~$230 a month with a clean record. Almost 25 though, if that counts for anything...

Oof. It’s about that in the Bay Area but part of that has to do with my estimated annual 24k miles/year. I feel this says more about the Prius than it does about the Focus, which doesn’t surprise me. Those rideshare drivers only follow traffic laws when it suits them.

That won’t last long. My Focus ST keeps going up in price to insure because people keep wrecking them. The FB groups are nothing but “somewhere in Mexico” pictures of crashed STs. I still believe my car will be a collector car in 10-15 years because it’ll be the last one remaining in working order without a salvage title.
